3D Art - Katana : The Water Blade
The guard was a real life design that I wanted to reproduced in Zbrush.
I liked this design so much that I chose to make a complete theme for the weapon.

For the blade i focus myself on maintaining 2 distincts sides :
- One sharp and brighter
- One stong and darker
The skin pattern of the blade was entirely handmade.
The kanji "Water blade" was made with an alpha brush created on Photoshop.

3D Art - Katana : The Water Blade

I always wanted to create elements of the feudal Japan period in 3D.
It was when I was playing "Ghost of Tsushima" that I really said to myself: "Well, this time it's time to make your own katana!
So here is the "Water Blade", in connection with the Kanjis (symbols) I composed to name this one.

The final asset is about 15k polygons and is game ready.

To create this asset I have watched many historical documentaries in order to get the best inspiration from the traditional manufacturing method of these formidable weapons.

I spent a lot of time on the small details, especially what the traditional smiths of this weapon call "the skin of the blade", as well as on the guard (Tsuba) and on the rendering.

I want to thank everyone who gave me feedbacks during the finalization of the project.

I was a lot of fun to work on this project, I hope you'll enjoy it, have a good look !
